Dear Parents of Phillips School Students,
This letter includes information about the start of school and a list of materials that your child should bring to school in the fall.
The first day of school for students in Kindergarten – grade 9 will begin at 8:05AM on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Between now and then please acquire the following materials for your child to bring with them on the first day.
PHYS. ED.: All students will have Phys. Ed. and should have sneakers and comfortable clothing. Having a pair of sneakers in their locker means they are prepared for class and can participate fully.
ART: All students will have Art. Please have your child bring 5 pencils to leave in the art room for working on drawing pieces.
INSTRUMENTAL STUDENTS: Every good musician always has a pencil and their instrument 🙂
KINDERGARTEN: Students coming to Kindergarten will receive a separate letter explaining more about school and what to bring on the first day.
GRADE 1: backpack to fit into a classroom cubby, standard size material box to fit into a desk, pencils (please consider sending an extra pack with your child’s name on it for use when your child needs more), erasers, scissors, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, 1 (2-pocket) portfolio to bring papers back and forth to school and a box of tissues to share with the class. Please consider having a change of clothes to be left in their cubby.
GRADE 2: backpack to fit into a classroom cubby, standard size material box to fit into a desk, pencils (please consider sending an extra pack with your child’s name on it for use when your child needs more), erasers, scissors, glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, 5 (2-pocket) portfolios, 2 sets of addition and subtraction cards (one to be kept at home for practice and another set for school practice), ruler with centimeters and inches, and a box of tissues to share with the class.
GRADE3: backpack to fit into a classroom cubby, material box, 3 dozen pencils (to start out the year with), crayons and colored pencils (markers are optional), pencil sharpener that catches shavings, ruler with centimeters and inches, 2 (1-subject) spiral bound notebooks, 3 glue sticks, scissors, a homework folder, and a box of tissues to share with the class.
GRADE 4: backpack to fit into a classroom cubby, material box, pencils, scissors, 2 glue sticks, markers, colored pencils, ruler with centimeters and inches, 1 (1 subject) spiral bound notebook, 2 (3 subject) notebooks, 5 pocket folders with brads (writing, social studies, math, reading and science), 1 2” 3-ring portfolio binder, 1 pocket folder for homework, and a box of tissues to share with the class.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: All middle level students are expected to come each day prepared for every class and ready to participate fully in the planned activities. The following list is to help the students accomplish this task – an assignment book, a large book cover for math, 4 sturdy 2” 3-ring binders, (5th graders also need 2 2” 3-ring binders specifically for math), notebook paper for each binder, reinforcements to repair torn holes, PENCILS (many) with erasers, pencil sharpener, blue or black erasable pens, crayons, colored pencils, a pencil pouch, 3 x 5 notecards (lots), Grades 5 and 6 should have a memory stick, earbuds (headphones), a water bottle, independent reading books, a box of tissues to share with the class. OPTIONAL ITEMS: markers for posters, tape, glue sticks, plastic cover sheets, highlighters, fine tipped pens for labeling maps.
In addition to the above list, please consider donating a ream of copy paper to your child’s class. It will be greatly appreciated.
